Keep moving forward

Moments of doubt

After Boris locked us down again this week I looked at my reformer with its shiny new springs and thought quite seriously about giving it all up. After all, Pilates is not just about movement, it is also about building relationships and trust; giving you the confidence to keep moving when you are not quite sure how to best go about it. Being there with a helping hand to give that physical feedback which helps you achieve a little more lift, a little more twist, a little more inspiration. And Covid has really messed that up.

Can I really carry on doing this online, I thought? Without the face to face, hands on interaction, is it really worth doing at all?

And then I taught my first class of 2021 the next day and I saw your faces again on my screen, and we connected and chatted, and moved and felt the benefits of Pilates together, and I realised why I love my job, how movement really helps to lift everyone’s spirits, and that now more than ever what I offer is still of value to you.

I listened to my daughter’s Headmistress talking in her start of term assembly about the fact that we cannot control our external circumstances, but we are very much in control of our attitude to what is happening around us. It really struck a cord with me. She also quoted Nelson Mandela when he said, “Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointing to the sun, and one’s feet moving forward”. I am keeping both of those ideas in mind right now when we have so little control of what is going on around us, and am keeping my feet moving forward!

To help keep you moving forwards at a time when money may be tight, and the chaos of home schooling may make an exercise routine seem impossible, I am making one class recording available to you every week for only £5. You can practise the class as many times as you like over the course of the week and the link will expire on Sunday evening. It will be a half hour mid level class suitable for those of you who have done Pilates before, and who have no exercise limitations. Please feel free to modify the exercises to suit your level.

Look for weekly video in my class listings, and the next recording will be available to purchase on Monday.

Members, all of these videos are available to you in the online video library section of my website https://hhpilates.com/video-library

Have a great weekend, stay positive and keep those feet moving forward – at least we are not being locked down for 27 years!
